Tipsters hit form - and Newsboy heads the list

The Daily Mirror’s Newsboy has made a rousing start to May, posting a 17.3point profit on all tips logged during the first nine days of the month with a win strike-rate of more than 31%. The 16/1 Market Rasen success of novice chaser Sirius Star on 6 May and the win by Mogestic (a 10/1 strike at Warwick on 2 May) were the stand-out wins but the haul also included two winners at 7/1, two at sixes and three at 11/2.

Warwick’s early May meetings saw Newsboy at his best. Five winners were advised on 2 May, including the previously mentioned 10/1 Mogestic and strikes at 6/1 and 4/1. Five days later, Newsboy selected three winners, producing an overall strike-rate of almost 60% for the two meetings.

The Racing Post’s Postdata has also made a good impression during the early days of May with 20/1 Chase The Wind delighting followers with victory at Wetherby on 4 April. There have also been three four winner hauls: at Uttoxeter and Carlisle (both on 5 May) and Hexham (7 May).

Mogestic’s 10/1 Uttoxeter victory on 2 May was also advised by Racing Post’s Ratings service which secured another 10/1 win curtesy of What A Scorcher at Newton Abbot three days later.

Marlborough of the Daily Telegraph made short work of the conundrums posed by Chester’s unique course. A 38% win strike-rate during the recent three-day meeting – a haul which included the victory of 5/1 Newera (5 May) – ensured that punters who backed Marlborough’s tips throughout the meeting would have made a profit on starting price. The would, of course, have made a much bigger profit if taking up bookies offers such as best odds guaranteed.

Flash Fire (20/1, Ascot, 7 May) rewarded followers of the Irish Independent’s Captain Keen, while Berkshire Boy, who won at Bath on 2 May at a similar price, brought joy to punters who followed the advice of The Times’ Rob Wright.
